Requesting the governor to commission an artist to sculpt a statuary likeness of United States Senator Robert C. Byrd to be placed in or near the rotunda in the state capitol.

Whereas, Senator Robert C. Byrd has represented his state and its people with courage, intelligence and effectiveness; and
Whereas, Senator Robert C. Byrd has distinguished himself within the Senate by providing outstanding leadership to that body during extremely difficult and perilous times in our nation's history; and
Whereas, When he was chairman of the Senate committee on appropriations, Senator Byrd secured the necessary funding for helping to improve the quality of life for all West Virginians; and
Whereas, Senator Robert C. Byrd's many great accomplishments as a statesman and representative of this state derived from a greatness of character that will be remembered with enduring reverence for countless generations to come. Therefore, it is appropriate that a statuary likeness of the senator be sculpted and placed in a location of honor in the hallowed halls of this great capitol building; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Honorable Gaston Caperton, governor of this state, is hereby requested to commission the sculpture of a statuary likeness of our honorable and esteemed Senator Robert C. Byrd by a skillful and competent artist; and, be it
Further Resolved, That upon completion, such statuary likeness be placed in a location of honor in the main capitol complex, in or near the capitol rotunda; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby requested to forward a copy of this resolution to the governor and to Senator Robert C. Byrd.
